Periyava Golden Quotes-1043
‘Stealing’ has several definitions. Even Bhagawan has this title of ‘thief’ like ‘Ullam-Kavar-Kalvan’ (Stealer of Heart), ‘Chitha-Chor’ (Stealer of my mind), etc. There is a saying that if our expenditure exceeds our income then that itself is Stealing. In the Bhagawad-Geetha, Lord Krishna says that if one who acquires and enjoys things for their worldly life from the Celestials, without offering it back to them, then that itself is ‘stealing’. We have to follow the Canon of ‘Aparigraha’ with the thought that ‘anything acquired beyond our necessity will be considered as stealing’. – Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal
Periyava Golden Quotes-1044
Our Acharya also has glorified the aspect ‘Aparigraha’ in ‘Viveka Choodaamani’. He says that ‘Silence’ is the first entry point for Yoga followed by ‘Non-Stealing’. (Yogasya Prathamam-Dwaaram-Vaang-Nirodho-Aparigraha). This habit of hoarding for oneself started only from the time when the concept of currency or liquid-money was invented. From that time, spending lavishly for one’s own selfish desires increased manifold, and public charity declined, resulting in damage to the concept of ‘Non-Stealing’. – Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal
